Bay Area | African American Employee Network (AAEN)

The Forum: Conversations at YBCA – Kamala Harris

Initiated by michaelD. Communications in 2011, the African American Employee Network (AAEN) of the Bay Area is a collaborative network of African American employee resource groups and professional organizations from the public, private, public and educational sectors. The organization was developed in direct response to a need expressed by members of the corporate community. AAEN is led by representatives from  michaelD. Communications (Michael DeFlorimonte), PG&E (Dela Weeks) and Merrill Lynch (David Spencer).

AAEN objectives are focused in five areas: Career Development • Technology • Financial Management • Mentorship • Work/Life Balance.

AAEN held its launch event, sponsored by Merrill Lynch, on October 18, 2011. Fifteen Bay Area corporations were represented [view photos]. Today, AAEN is in contact with over 40 Bay Area employee resource groups and professional organizations.

AAEN was initially formed as a community for Employee Resource Group leaders. However, soon after inception it became clear that there is a high demand for African American professionals, at all levels, to come together and benefit from shared learning and relationship development.

This convening of professionals connects individuals and organizations across a variety of industries. The result – collaborative opportunities that result in better leaders, prospects, employees, entrepreneurs…and more profitable companies.

We encourage participation from corporate employee resource groups, professional organizations, businesses and individuals.
