[LIFESTYLE] My new best friend. Gasbuddy.com

VIBE: In the past I never really paid attention to gas prices until it was time to buy a car, and I haven’t done that in a few years. I mean if you gotta drive to work, you gotta drive to work, right? But recently, I caught the “I’m paying too much for gas” bug, having seen a $105 price tag to fill my tank! So out comes the handy iPhone (4G), still much better at being the “i” than the “phone.” A few clicks later and I’m all signed up at GasBuddy.com. So now I play this little game of finding the cheapest gas nearby, and well, as you probably know already, it makes a difference.

As I write this, I see that I could buy gas for “as little as” (ha!) $4.12 (2.7 miles away), or as much as $4.45 (1.3 miles away). If I drive a couple more miles enroute to my next destination I could get Costco gas for $4.07. That’s nearly $9/tank x 8 fillups/mo = $72 savings/mo. What’s $72? In my book that’s dinner out with the wife (sometimes), stuff for the kids, 1-3 bottles of wine, Uncle Sam, etc. And if I save that money and throw it in the college fund, over the course of 15 – 18 years…

Check it out.
